Matriculation Books of the Central Institute for the History of Art
The Munich Akademie der Bildenden KØnste (Academy of Fine Arts) was founded in 1808, in continuation of a precursor institution already founded in 1770. It has been one of the leading European schools for visual artists to this day. The second half of the 19th century is regarded as its most thriving period.
In the run-up to the 200th anniversary of the Academy in 2008, the matriculation books of the Academy from 1809 to 1920 were digitised in a joint project from 2004 to 2008. The matriculation books serve as consistent documentation of the almost 13,000 art students enrolled during this period. The original books are kept in the archive of the Academy of Fine Arts.
In addition to the scans of the original register entries prepared by the Munich Digitisation Centre, the digital edition also comprises the transcription of the master data. The master data were incorporated in a database containing additional information.
